Donations for the Clothes for Wishes drive will be accepted until Sept. 23.

Clothing, towels, linens and bedding are currently being accepted for the Clothes for Wishes collection drive until next Friday, Sept. 23. The drive is organized by senior Geovanni Medina, and donations can be put into the green recycle boxes on the first floor outside of G144.

The collected items will be delivered to the Make-A-Wish foundation in North Texas where they will then be sorted, sold and delivered to local thrift stores.

“This helps other students around Texas because it’s part of the North Texas Make-A-Wish foundation,” Medina said. “With the donations that we have, it goes toward funding the program that helps children all throughout North Texas.”

For those who are usually late getting to school after spending too much time trying to find a certain clothing item, that’s a sign that there may be too much clothing clutter; this can also be a fire hazard. A good way to solve this issue is by donating excess clothing.

“Some people keep clothes in their closets that they never wear, [they] just sit and sit and sit, and giving them to the organization will allow them to actually have a better selection of clothes,” StuCo adviser Allison Stamey said.

By donating your clothes, you will not only have a cleaner and more organized closet space, but you’ll also be able to participate in a cause for the greater good.

“The students should donate because we have a lot of clothes that collect dust just sitting there and [instead of] it sitting there, it could be out helping children around Texas if we donate,” Medina said. “So if we donate the clothes, you want to think about the types of lives you could change with that one shirt [or] that one pair of pants.”

You’ll make a difference in someone’s life just by giving away extra clothes that can provide warmth and comfort to someone in need.

“Donate if you have it; if anything is in your closet that you’re not using, spare them to someone who is in need of clothing,” Stamey said.
