Sandra Bullock (Left) and George Clooney (Right) play as astronauts fixing a space shuttle. As they enjoy the amazing view of earth, they’re not prepared for the ineveitable doom that approaches.

If there are three words that could perfectly describe Gravity, it would be: “a visual masterpiece.” Seriously, it would not be surprising if this film gets nominated for best special effects and cinematography, alongside Elysium, and that movie was visually stunning, too.

Gravity, directed by the terrifically talented Alfonso Cuaron [“Children of Men”, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”], centers around two astronauts, Dr. Ryan Stone [Sandra Bullock] and Matt Kowalski [George Clooney]. They were fixing up their shuttle when they encountered debris from a destroyed satellite, decimating the shuttle and sending the terrified astronauts adrift. And there the non-stop, heart-pounding thriller begins.

The movie is not just about Sandra Bullock floating around in space, as most people assumed. The two protagonists are actively and desperately trying to get to another space station while trying to survive by relying on each other and conserving oxygen. And that’s where the adventure is.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are perfect casting choices for the roles they played, because they really sell it as astronauts who are lost in space. Clooney, who did a solid performance recently in “The Descendants,” was very charismatic as Matt Kowalski and stole every scene he was in. He displays a cool-headed demeanor as he helps guide Bullock because she is the one who is terrified to the core. Bullock did an amazing job, too, as she has the chance to show a wide range of emotion.

The acting is great, but what about everything else in the movie? For a film that has a simple premise, it was very well-paced and is packed with wonderful post-film edits of earth from space. Gravity makes space look so beautiful yet terrifying at the same time.

This movie is realistic and engaging that, during the suspenseful moments, I actually forgot to breathe. And the IMAX 3D makes it all the more noteworthy. If there is an IMAX theatre near you, I highly recommend you to go see Gravity there. It’s basically made for IMAX, and you will be doing a disservice to yourself if you watch it in any other theatre.

Gravity is a near flawless movie; I have very few nitpicks that are not even worth mentioning. It’s an immersive experience that will leave you in awe from the very first shot to the last. Please, don’t choose to go see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 over this movie, or a satellite will come crashing down onto your house.
