Circle of Friends is collecting items for chemo patients through Nov. 14.

Imagine hours of woozy nausea and violent vomiting. Imagine losing hair, suffering an immense amount of pain and not being able to sleep through it all because of the insomnia. Those going through these side effects of chemotherapy would welcome even the smallest of comforts, and that is exactly what the Circle of Friends is trying to do.

The papers can be seen posted all throughout the school with lists of supplies to donate for the cause. Circle of Friends sponsor Bailey Fath is leading these efforts to support and comfort the cancer patients.

“We are collecting items so that we can deliver chemo kits to different people that are going through chemotherapy,” Fath said. “It’s of all ages, so we have children’s books and adult books, things like that. We’re going to deliver a little kit to help them get through the day.”

The list of items Circle of Friends is collecting is diverse, Fath said.

“There’s books, activity puzzles, chapstick, hand sanitizer just because they’re more susceptible to germs, and toothbrushes because the treatment leaves a very awful taste in their mouth,” Fath said. “There’s soap in some of them. We have some kleenex in some. A lot of them say they get very cold while they’re going through the process so we have fuzzy socks and different blankets.”

The students are learning a lesson from all of this too, Fath said.

“This whole month we’re doing different activities to try to teach our students to give back because so much is done for them,” Fath said. “We’ve picked up trash in Lewisville [and] throughout the community. Today we went to a senior center where we did Meals on Wheels. We delivered some meals and cleaned all the door handles to prevent germs from spreading since it’s flu season.”

Anyone wishing to donate items for the patients going through chemotherapy can see Bailey Fath in room D103 before Nov. 14.
