Fundraiser to benefit next year’s show

The band program has had several marching shows with props and designs to make its music stand out that much more to the audience. Those who have dealt with designing or purchasing props know that they don’t come cheap. For this reason, the band program has come up with a unique fundraiser that matches the theme of its show where they will receive a ticketed amount depending on the mattress size sold.

“A picture is worth 1,000 words, and when it comes to a marching show program that picture is rounded out by outfits and props,” band booster president Nikki Duncan said. “We have big plans for next year, which require a big budget. It’s our hope this mattress fundraiser will benefit members of the community while also benefiting the band students.”

Next year’s show, “What Dreams are Made of,” will require large beds spread throughout the field which won’t be easy to acquire. It is definitely an abnormal type of fundraiser, but the reasons behind choosing it are pretty clear.

“The band boosters are always looking for new and creative ways to raise funds for the band and its many programs,” vice president of fundraising Shellye Bandy said. “We learned about this program and how it has assisted other local bands in achieving their financial goals so we decided to give it a try.”

After a more successful marching season, the band that marches with pride looks to add one more step up to the shows next year, and attract the attention of not only the crowd but the judges as well.

“The band program is always looking to grow and improve on the field of competition,” Duncan said. “This coming year is no different, and the directors have been working all year on their plan for next year. Building on the relationship with the new drill writer we brought in this year, next year the program will be working with a new music writer. This fundraiser offers the community the opportunity to support their band while gaining the peace of restful dreams.”
