Donated formal wear lines the racks for the free prom boutique on Sunday, April 2.

With the special end of the year dance slowly approaching, students are struggling with prom shopping. To help students with finding affordable attire, a pop-up shop will be hosted by A Single Hand Foundation in partnership with Student Council. The event will be held on Sunday, April 2 from 2 to 4 p.m open to all seniors.

“Once Upon a Prom Boutique is designed to help parents and students overcome the financial barrier of prom expenses by giving students an opportunity to shop for prom at no cost,” founder and president of A Single Hand Foundation Samica Harris said.

The pop-up shop will provide new and gently used dresses, suits, shoes and accessories donated by people from all throughout the DFW metroplex. A Single Hand Foundation also hosted fundraisers at Marco’s Pizza and Charming Charlie to raise money for the boutique. In addition, a fried ribs food truck and photo booth will be available.

“Senior expenses are sometimes hard for families,” Harris said. “We didn’t want any seniors that wanted to attend prom to miss it because of finances.”

For seniors to attend, registration is required on their Eventbrite website. On Monday, juniors are welcome to see what items are still available in room G144.

“The ladies are coming early Sunday to organize things,” StuCo adviser Allison Stamey said. “Everyone is so excited about being able to help so many.”
