Senior tight end James Johnston (89) makes the block to allow the touchdown to be scored.

The Hebron Hawks managed to put up a strong game against Lewisville last Friday despite their loss of 21-14.

The game was proof that the Farmers have the capability to have a strong defense. Junior Ahmadric Pelican and senior Deleion Voss played a game that consisted of three combined sacks against the Hawks.

With the improved playing on the defensive end, the offense simply had to do their job in order to successfully finish. Lewisville came out in the first quarter with a touchdown putting them in the lead 6-0. The rest of the game was a back and forth matchup with either team scoring one after the other, and the fourth quarter having no touchdowns.

The Farmers climbed their way to fourth place in district after their win against Hebron making their overall record [2-2] while their district record is [1-1]. This very tight win puts the Farmers in a good place to go into this week when they face Allen High School.

“A lot of us feel unconfident about playing against Allen,” Pelican said. “We saw how Marcus played against Allen, and we should have beat Marcus, so we can see that Allen is beatable.”

The Allen Eagles [5-0], with a 48-game winning streak, won against Marcus [4-1] by a small margin of 10 points [38-28]. The Allen Eagles have a record to maintain and a point to prove as they go in to play Lewisville. The Fighting Farmers definitely have to fight their way through this game because they are going into the game being the obvious underdogs.

“[We] have went to work to get better and gain some momentum before the grind [in order] to finish high in district,” head football coach Gregg Miller said.

So far, the season for the Farmers has matched last year’s, beating the same two teams (Richland Hills and Hebron) and losing against the same two teams (Rowlett and Marcus). The secondaries on defense have to step up to the plate in order to stop Allen’s potent deep passing game. As for the offense, they have to focus on hitting the holes during the run and outrunning the defense on the pass.

Come out tonight to watch Lewisville play Allen in their third home game of the season. Game starts at 7:30 in Max Goldsmith Stadium.
