Senior Calen Fazer (45) and senior Cortez Thomas (9) tackle the offensive player from Allen on Oct. 10 at home.

The Farmers [2-3] kicked off another practice week preparing for Flower Mound [1-5] after a disappointing loss against the Allen Eagles [5-0].

Last week senior defensive back Cortez Thomas began the game with an interception, and this allowed senior running back Josh Adebayo to make the game’s first touchdown. The Farmers played the first half of the game with a strong defense, setting up the Farmer offense to score on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, the Eagle defense was able to force punt after punt, and this kept the Farmers at seven points for the entire game.

“We couldn’t get protection in the backfield so we couldn’t pass,” junior wide receiver Tyrell Shavers said. “Our run game just really wasn’t there.”

Flower Mound is an essential game for the Fighting Farmers. Currently seventh in the district, McKinney Boyd [4-3], Plano East [4-1] and Plano West [2-3] are the only teams who are in higher standing that the Farmers have yet to play. New plays are always being drawn up to compete against the new opponents’ defense.

“This week we have had to refocus,” head defensive coordinator Austin Kaehn said. “We have to focus on the new opponent. We have a task on our hands ahead of us. All these next games are going to be tough games, but we have a chance in every single one of them.”

With playoffs still being five games away, the team sees their chance at claiming its spot in the brackets.

“We have a good shot at playoffs,” Kaehn said. “The way the district is playing, everybody beating up on each other, and we’re exactly where we want to be at this point in the season.”

To secure playoff position, the Farmers need to at least win the next four of five games. McKinney Boyd plays at Plano [3-3] tonight, while Marcus High School [5-1] plays at Plano West. These two games are huge factors for the team making playoffs because the winners could shift the tables greatly or only hold down the placing already there.

Come out tonight at 7:30 to support the Fighting Farmers at Neil Wilson Athletic Stadium in Flower Mound.
