Volleyball to begin off-season

Girls prepare for next season after not making playoffs

The varsity volleyball team ends its season 7-13, and players say goodbye to the seniors who will be missed.

“This was my favorite season,” senior Nnenna Ijoma said. “I didn’t think Coach Rod would impact my life as much as she did. I’m going to miss just playing with my teammates and just fooling around together. They were my best friends.”

Being a varsity volleyball player is hard enough with all of the pressure to be the best. For some, it was their last season as a high school varsity volleyball player, but for others it was their first, which can make it even harder.

“I had a lot to live up to,” sophomore Ryleigh Taylor said. “I was so good last year and was worried that I wouldn’t be this year. It was difficult at times, but overall it was fun.”

Tryouts are rumored to be the most difficult part of the whole volleyball experience. However, when the players are actually on the court playing it seems to all fade, and there are plenty of new players who want to be a part of that experience.

“I take it upon myself to meet everyone in the program,” Taylor said. “I just want to make sure I know who might be trying out next year.”

Returning varsity players will have to be willing to help the new players. It can be stressful knowing the whole program will be looking up to those returning, and the new players will be counting on them for help.

The incoming varsity players need to be ready for a hard but fun and entertaining year because returning varsity players are ready for more next season.

“I hope they’re ready,” Taylor said. “I want playoffs next season.”
