The Fighting Farmers [2-1] face their first district opponent, the Trinity Trojans [3-0], tonight at 7:30 at Pennington Field in Bedford.

The Sept. 9 game against McKinney Boyd [0-3] ended 51-14 in favor of the Farmers. Senior wide receiver Kyle Smith and junior running back De’Mondrick Hunter were key offensive players. Smith went for seven receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown, while Hunter ran the ball 14 times for 123 yards and one touchdown.

Last week’s bye week allowed the Farmers more time to prepare for tonight’s game against Trinity who is known for having big strong players, and for being a team who fights to win the district championship. For the past two weeks the Farmers worked in the weight room to get stronger and worked on play making decisions and strategic plays.

“We’re more looking to improve on our passing game cause over the years we don’t tend to throw it in the air much,” Smith said. “This year we have more practices and more plays to learn and execute in the game, since our running game is already strong.”

Defensive back coach Juan Thrasher has been taking advantage of the bye week to work with the defense when it comes to making the right decision to have a solid performance this upcoming game.

“We are getting mentally ready and preparing to see what [the Trojans] bring offensively, defensively and special team ways,” Thrasher said.

The Farmers expect the Trojans to come out strong, but they ultimately hope to come out on top.

“[The Trojans] are going to come out and fight hard,” senior defensive back Cruz Sustaita said. “They’re known for big boys and beating up on you, but I think we are just as good as them. We really got a good team this year. Our defensive threat should handle them [and] our offense is full of talent. Everyone is going to get the job done.”
