Senior defensive backs Nekobe Pomaney (24) and Patrick Bethea (6) tackle the Marcus player.

After a dominant defensive and offensive performance against Marcus [3-2], the Farmers [3-2] look to stop the force of the Southlake Carroll Dragons [4-1] tonight at home at 7:30. Last week the Farmers blew out the Marauders 41-14, ending a nine-year streak of defeats and the axe returned home.

Southlake Carroll currently stands second in the district, and the team proved its placement last week by defeating Euless Trinity 42-28. As for Lewisville, the team stands fifth. This game will be a test for the Farmers to see if they can maintain their winning form against a tough opponent like Carroll.

“We expect them to come out hard just like they did against Trinity,” senior defensive back Patrick Bethea said. “We’ve watched film on them [and] looked at what their offense is running, and we’re going to do our best to stop them.”

Head coach Gregg Miller is proud of his defensive team so far. He believes the players can keep up their success all season long because of a strong bond the boys have, and because of the hard work and effort they put in on and off the field.

“It feels great but it’s still early, you know,” Miller said. “It feels good to know we can get stops when we need to; you’re not ever going to go out blank anymore where you totally shut the other team down. I feel real confident with our kids and going up against anyone right now.”

The defense has been a key factor for the Farmers performances with a lot of talent throughout the team. From key players to the coaches and the leaders on the field, the defense has been successful so far. They plan to maintain their success throughout the whole season, and work to become better week in and week out.

“The key to our defense is our good core guys that start for us,” senior defensive back Rian Crosby said. “Our front is phenomenal; it’s led by Khristian Lee [and we have] good linebackers with Ahmadric Pelican. It’s one our best defenses in the past 10 years.”

The players praise not only their coaches but everyone who supports the team for its success.

“Coach Kane’s schemes, the entire defensive coordinators, the scout teams and all around just everyone putting in work [has led us to be successful],” senior linebacker Sebastian Escalera said.
