Junior running back De’Mondrick Hunter (20) tries to evade the tackle while senior wide receiver Cedric Dockery (86) gets ready to cut during the Hebron game on Friday, Oct. 28.

After losing last week to the Hawks [7-2 overall, 5-1 in district 5-6A] 51-27, the Farmers [3-6 overall, 1-5 in district] look to finish the season with a win. Tonight is the last home game of the season as the Farmers play against the Flower Mound Jaguars [3-6 overall, 2-4 in district].

The Jaguars fell to powerhouse Euless Trinity [6-3 overall, 3-3 in district] 41-7 last Friday. The playoff hopes are still alive for the Jaguars, while the Farmers defeat last week means they are eliminated from playoff contention.

“We played hard and we played real well in the first half and we actually hung with them,” head coach Gregg Miller said. “[Hebron is] really good. Their quarterback is really good and I thought we were with them until we did not convert in a fourth down in the third quarter. They got up by two touchdowns on us and we had a hard time to pace with them coming from behind.”

The offense had a few switch ups in the lineup as well. The Farmers surprised a few football fans as senior wide receiver Tyrell Shavers was slotted into the quarterback position. Tyrell made five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, and he also rushed for 145 yards averaging 9.67 per attempt with two touchdowns.

“It was great, I loved it and I had a fun time,” senior wide receiver and quarterback Tyrell Shavers said. “Even though I played quarterback I still feel more comfortable as a receiver because that’s what I’ve been playing for most of my life.”

The players believe tonight will prove to be a good match-up.

“[Flower Mound] is a good team, they are just as good as us,” senior linebacker Matt Enyart said. “If we prepare for them and they prepare for us it can be a good game.”

Despite the outcome of the game, the team is proud of what it has accomplished.

“The biggest accomplishment this season was winning the axe,” senior wide receiver Kyle Smith said. “We haven’t had the axe in a long time, and everyone was proud of us for bringing it back. We worked as a team to get it back.”

Though the record doesn’t reflect it, bonding with each other throughout the season is what has helped maintain positive spirits week in and out.

“We’ve came together more,” Smith said. “In the spring and the summer we weren’t as much together. But we were together this year to accomplish more than last year. We are more united than we ever have been before.”
