Principal Jeffrey Kajs poses with his award.

Through his determination, hard work and goal to always put the school first, principal Jeffrey Kajs received the Communities in Schools of North Texas Educator of the Year award on Friday, March 7. This award is to acknowledge those who support the CIS program and work their hardest to put students’ education first.

CIS is a graduation support program that helps students who need assistance with any issue, and the coordinators work with the students to make sure they have what they need to graduate high school.

“I try to help so many students,” Kajs said. “When they come to me with a problem, issues or maybe some sticky points on how to handle things, I always try to put them first and foremost.”

Kajs represents all that CIS looks for because without his support for the program it wouldn’t be as prosperous.

“A good reason why the Communities in Schools is successful in a campus is when the administration on the campus buys in,” CIS coordinator Chelsea Davis said. “I really feel like Principal Kajs is all in and he is all about CIS helping families and students.”

Throughout the past years, his colleagues have noticed his determination to always make sure students are taken care of. Out of other principals in North Texas, he stood out because he is supportive and builds a good foundation for his school.

“I hardly ever hear him say no,” secretary Kay Sutton said. “He always says ‘What can we do,’ ‘How can we make it better,’ ‘What it is [students] need.’ He is always open to any and all suggestions to make LHS better in any way, shape or form.”

Kajs is grateful for the award he received for encouraging every student to try their best.

“It’s very humbling,” Kajs said. “I always see myself as a small part of what we do here in Lewisville High School because so many people do so many great things and help make all of the programs [run], and to be recognized like that is very honoring.”
