Review: ‘Wait On Me’ – same song, different message

Rixton’s new single not exactly groundbreaking, but good enough for status quo

Rixton plays it safe with it’s new single, “Wait On Me.”

Rixton, the pop band that wrote the popular radio single, “Me and My Broken Heart,” has come out with a new single. “Wait on Me” has been received by listeners in the same way as “Me and My Broken Heart” was, probably because they’re practically the same song.

Yes, it seems to be another example of an artist making it big with one popular single, and trying to hold onto that fame by making similar songs that they’ve changed just a little bit to cater to people’s expectations. It’s a played-out strategy, but still seems to be working.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the song itself, it’s good. But the pop band hasn’t shown much branching out in their second top hit, much like similar new artists such as Lorde and Maroon 5. There’s nothing wrong with these groups, they just continue to play on the safe side with not-so distinct songs.

“Wait on Me” features lead singer Jake Roche’s vocals put together with a more uplifting and catchy beat than their previous single, but the general feel and tune of the songs is all too similar in comparison.

To its credit though, the new single does feature a fairly unique tone in its message of trying very hard to get with the boss’s wife, as the video shows. It looks to be just a fun video to match with a catchy song, and it does succeed in that goal.

Rixton has been criticized as featuring similarities in their recent songs to that of Maroon 5’s, but no one seems to have been too upset by it. Meanwhile, they seem to be sticking with the same formula shown in the last couple songs, and it seems to be working for them.
