From the director of Cowboys vs. Aliens, Jon Favreau, comes the next live action adaptation of a classic animated Disney film, ‘The Jungle Book.’

‘The Jungle Book’ is the latest film released by the Walt Disney Company and is an absolute visual treat for the whole family.

The film follows Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a young boy who is raised by wolves in the jungles of India after his father is killed trying to protect him. When he finds himself being hunted by the dangerous tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba), he journeys to the main village to escape the jungle before Khan can find him and kill him. On this journey he is aided by the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley), who has helped raise Mowgli since he came to the jungle, and Baloo, the fun loving bear (Bill Murray). He also meets many strange creatures and dangers along his journey all of which are very memorable.

The film tries to blend the book and the animated film with varying degrees of success. Where the film falls particularly short is in the explanation of the characters. It makes it hard to care about the them because you never really learn who they are.

Now on the other hand, the film looks gorgeous. The film’s visual effects team did a great job in building the world and its inhabitants. The background effects in this movie are so strong that it’s hard to tell if they are really there or not. All of the acting is great, all of the main characters are wonderfully played, and the music is catchy and enjoyable.

Only two of the original songs from the original ‘The Jungle Book’ are in the movie, but they are both performed wonderfully. The songs include the obvious pick, ‘Bare Necessities,’ performed by Bill Murray, and ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ performed by Christopher Walken.

The best scene from the movie is when King Louie (Christopher Walken) is introduced. He is such an enjoyable actor in the role because you can tell he was allowed to have fun. This is especially evident in the ending credits when he sings ‘I Wanna Be Like You.’ The other standout performance is Bill Murray as Baloo who is just a perfect fit to the character. His personality really shines through in every scene that he’s on screen.

All of this comes together to make a very delightful watch for the whole family. ‘The Jungle Book’ deserves 4 out of 5 stars, and is a solid recommendation for any Disney fanatic.
