Christmas is right around the corner and it’s time to grab a permanent spot on the couch, some hot chocolate and the TV remote. Let’s start a Christmas movie marathon counting down to the best Christmas movie.

12) The Nightmare Before Christmas – “There’s children throwing snowballs instead of throwing heads they’re busy building toys and absolutely no one’s dead!” First up on our list is an unconventional Christmas story. Most regular Christmas goers stick to the basic movies that showcase seemingly perfect holiday celebrations, but if you are looking for something that adds a little character to your holiday movie list this animated story is sure to provide that. Jack Skellington will help the Halloween lovers love Christmas on a whole other level and provide new insight to the Christmas fanatics we all know and love. So light your favorite pumpkin spice candle, it’s time to mix our holidays.

11) Arthur Christmas – “I’ve got a phobia of being beheaded – and heights, and speed, and reindeer, and buttons.” Next up on our list is a movie that most skip over; it can be found searching through the depths of Netflix’s holiday collection. Even though this movie is typically ignored, it is one to stop and enjoy. Arthur Christmas is a short and sweet story of Santa’s awkward son Arthur and his journey in becoming a new Santa. If you are looking for a feel good, goofy Christmas story this one will surely live up to expectations.

10) Jack Frost – “A snowdad is better than no dad.” Now it’s time for the perfect amount of emotional goodness. This family centered Christmas movie is one that will surely take its viewers through emotional leaps and bounds. Many moments will push and pull on your heartstrings. Jack Frost tells the tale of a father and son enduring a tragic holiday season that still prevails into some happy and bright times. Have your tissues prepared.

9) Home Alone 1, 2 and 3 – “Merry Christmas you filthy animal.” One name. Kevin. In this ridiculous Christmas special the black sheep of the McCallister family finds himself in a world of trouble when he forgets to accompany his family on their holiday trip. Even though this seems like a disaster, Kevin provides enormous amounts of humor and cleverness sure to inspire your inner rebel. After you finish this first story in this crazy recurring nightmare, press play on the next movie in this random series.

8) The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3 – “Just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.” In this satisfying series a seemingly normal man starts growing a giant beard and adapts a new lifestyle to accommodate his new responsibilities. This is another tear-jerker, father-son, heartfelt amazing Christmas movie. Be ready to watch a broken family heal and grow in this Christmas classic.

7) Frosty the Snowman – “Happy birthday! Hey, I said my first words. But… But snowmen can’t talk.” Frosty the Snowman has a way of enacting warmth into anyone’s heart and that is just what this movie will do. Despite there being a very catchy song, underneath it all lies a beautiful story about friendship and care. So whenever you have calmed your tears from the previous movies on our list press play on this great movie and be ready to fall in love with the sweet snowman named Frosty.

6) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – “Why am I such a misfit? I am not just a nitwit. Just because my nose glows… why don’t I fit in?” Everyone knows the song, but does everyone know the movie? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer explains in detail the fascinating predicament Santa faced throughout Rudolph’s year. A red-glowing nose and nasally voice will help its viewers fall in love with the quick tale all over again.

5) A Charlie Brown Christmas – “I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.” For the classic Christmas movie lovers out there, this animated tale is the way to go. Charlie Brown is a figure most viewers have grown up with. This story is sure to provide some throwback emotions and thoughts while also sharing a great moral principle throughout the story. Christmas is about more than just the presents. Furthermore, this story line requires a mini tree and some bulbs.

4) Elf – “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.” This crazy tale depicting Buddy’s first time outside the North Pole is notorious for being a little goofy and whole bunch of fun. Buddy the elf teaches us that not fitting in is perfectly OK. Whether I’d be spending ridiculous amounts of time on decorating for Santa or throwing a snowball, buddy is the perfect Christmas companion who is sure to make your holiday merry and bright.

3) How the Grinch Stole Christmas – “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.” At a young age children all around are taught the story of the Grinch, but what better way to explain it than a movie? This movie has a couple different variations, but comparing the live actions or the animated, the animated is the way to go. Dr. Seuss sends you through quirky tales of a quirky monster who learns what Christmas is about. For all you grinches out there, this movie is sure to up your Christmas spirit.

2) Polar Express – “Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can’t see.” Hot chocolate and pajamas are a must when watching this animated classic. The Polar Express has the power to inspire its viewers to believe again. This animated whirlwind is perfect for late Christmas Eve night. It will have you thirsting for hot chocolate, dreaming about the North Pole and waiting for those magical bells to ring. So hop in bed, the train will be boarding soon.

1) A Christmas Story – “Deck the harrs with boughs of horry, fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra.” Last on our list is the perfect Christmas day movie. After years of watching this movie on repeat throughout the Christmas season, this particular story line became a tradition. Ralphie goes through a typical Christmas of ridiculous presents from far away aunts only to be redeemed by the one gift he was begging for. Following the closing credits of this movie a life lesson will be learned: The simple principle things are not as they seem. Grab your secret decoder pins and unstick your tongues, this movie is sure to shoot your eye out.
