After an appalling cliffhanger in season one, season two of “13 Reasons Why” was released on Friday, May 18. Fans were excited to continue the Netflix series based on a girl, Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), who starts attending a new high school her sophomore year and faces various problems. Malicious rumors are spread, inappropriate images of her are leaked through the school, and all of her friends turn their backs on her. It all becomes too much for her to handle which drives to her suicide. However, before she commits suicide, she tapes 13 events that lead up to her decision.

Parents discouraged their kids, usually young teens, from watching season two of “13 Reasons Why” because the first season upset viewers due to the sensitive content. The producers bring clarity in the second season on ways to prevent suicide and warn viewers when an intense scene is about to be shown. The viewing age for the show is 15 or older depending upon parental discretion as the show is TV-MA because of language, sex, substances and sexual violence. “13 Reasons Why” contains graphic images of students being bullied as well.

Season two takes an unexpected turn as season one was based on Hannah’s tapes that were left behind, while season two reveals more secrets about Hannah’s image changing from an innocent new girl to the girl with numerous secrets. The show goes in-depth about situations Hannah faces during high school and her parents eventually find out about the tapes in season one.

Hannah’s parents believe the school should have prevented the situation that ultimately led to Hannah’s death and that school administration should monitor what was going on with students. Determined to do something about it, they take the situation to court, putting everyone who was friends with Hannah or mentioned on the tapes, in the trial. The prosecutors question the teenagers about Hannah and ask their stories as to why they believe Hannah committed suicide.

Season two is confusing to watch at the beginning. It’s easy to forget about what happened in the first season because the second season was not released until almost a year later. However, once fans delve more into season two and refresh their knowledge, it’s easy to be shocked. Countless unanticipated events happen and “13 Reasons Why” has everyone on their toes waiting to watch what happens next.

Season two has more drama and unexpected turns than season one. “13 Reasons Why” is a show that keeps people up all night trying to figure out what happens; it portrays what students can deal with in high school as it shows accurate representations of physical and emotional bullying in both seasons. Season two is highly emotional to watch because of the flashbacks about Hannah from when she was alive. Season two of “13 Reasons Why” soars way above expectations topping the emotional drama of season one.
