The Lewisville Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) is looking for members of the community to join together at 8 a.m. on Feb. 20 to help raise money for the first annual 5K Walk of Love.

Supporters will have the opportunity to participate in a 3.2 mile long journey starting at Main and ending at Harmon, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

“It’s something really simple,” JWAC co-president Kenwoo Kim said. “It’s not competitive and you can do it with friends.”

Everyone is encouraged to donate at least $25 and bring friends and family to support the fight against cancer. This is also an opportunity for clubs and organizations to hop on board for community service hours.

“This walk is a great way to inform the community about cancer awareness and inspire those with cancer [or] those who know someone with cancer to be hopeful and stay strong,” StuCo president Kayla Connor said.

This could not have been accomplished without the efforts of English teacher Jayne Keane who is currently battling breast cancer. Keane has gone through great lengths to help organize this event and plans to spread awareness throughout the community about the disease that affects 231,840 women each year.

“It is something that has changed my life,” Keane said. “I’ll never be the same.”
