Lights light up the word “PROM” as part of Monday’s theme reveal.

Throughout the past few weeks the juniors have been narrowing down the 2017 prom theme choices. The junior class council announced the top choice, A Night of a Thousand Lights, on Monday, Dec. 5.

“We basically did a poll during our junior class meeting and everyone voted,” junior class president Gabby Tapia said. “We had little slideshows for decorating ideas for each theme.”

The final contenders were Arabian Nights, Winter in Paris, Yule Ball, All That Jazz and A Night of a Thousand Lights. Voting for the theme was held on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

“It won by a lot of votes,” Tapia said. “A lot of people really did like it.”

Students are hopeful that this year’s theme will satisfy prom-goers because many were left disenchanted with last years Great Gatsby theme.

“I think what people think of when prom comes around is that we can spend an unlimited amount of money on decorations,” senior Chris Del Carpio said. “We would have loved to have these gigantic feather centerpieces and this grand entryway and having things hanging from the ceiling, but they don’t understand that it’s a lot of money.”

The junior class council faces the challenge of staying under budget with decorations while still making prom a night to remember.

“People are always skeptical of what they hear at first, but I think A Night of a Thousand lights will be very successful,” Del Carpio said.

Prom will take place on Saturday, April 22 at the DFW Hyatt Regency. Doors will open at 6:30, dinner will be served at 7 and the night will end at 11:30.
