A display of this year’s prom theme sits on the stage during Monday’s reveal.

One of the most awaited high school events is rapidly approaching and it was time for the theme of the main event to be declared. The announcement took place during A-lunch in the cafeteria on Monday, Dec. 11 headed by the junior class council where they informed this year’s winning prom theme: Rustic Romance.

“The other choices we had were Winter Wonderland, A Night in Paris and Monte Carlo,” senior Cameron Dockery said. “[Although], we couldn’t do Monte Carlo because the district doesn’t allow casino-themed proms.”

Due to the theme being chosen by juniors, there were many mixed emotions from seniors toward the concept of Rustic Romance.

“We show [juniors] a lot of presentations of different concepts and ideas,” junior class multicultural officer Jordan Jackman said. “If any junior, not even just StuCo members, [but] any junior in the school has an idea of what they’d like the prom to be, [the student] brings [the idea] to the junior class officers and we put [the presentation] together. We all vote on what the theme is going to be. I got a lot of complaints from the seniors, but the junior class voted on it and everyone else seemed to like it besides the small group who didn’t.”

Because the theme last year was A Night of a Thousand Lights, students plan to take a spin and be more original by decorating this year’s prom very rustic and vintage, almost similar to a wedding style. But just like last year, prom will take place in April at the DFW Hyatt Regency.

“The prom budget has not been decided yet, but it will most definitely be worth the money,” Dockery said. “Overall, I hope that everyone experiences the feeling of prom in general.”
