Staff Opinion: Make the season bright

Angel Tree gives students chance to receive real gift

The radios are already playing songs about jingling bells and snow and happiness. Gift wrap is on-sale at every major retail store and toys are begging to have someone come by and pay up the cash for the joy they promise.

But there’s only one gift that brings happiness without breaking wallets: Angel Tree.

The Angel Tree program, just reaching its eleventh year, aids children with donations from the school for a merry holiday. Children and adults who are in need request essentials and gifts for the holiday, and the community signs up to the anonymous listings to raise money and shop for the items. Student Council and classes wrap the gifts and keep the presents ready for families to pick up before the winter break.

The goal is to have something waiting for those in need to unwrap, but that cannot be accomplished without participation from the students and faculty.

In fact, the school can work together on this project, creating a tightly knit community all collaborating to make this season a better, brighter one for all. So, with the help from the thousands of students at here combined with the community, there will be less of a burden on struggling parents, guardians, and families alike. Just a few dollars from each student and every person on that list of names will have a present neatly wrapped for them.

Truly, Angel Tree is a gift that keeps on giving and an act of kindness that keeps hopes high. Each child in the community has the opportunity to have a joyous holiday. Therefore, Farmers should look for the real gift of this season: giving a struggling family something to smile about.
