Senior Goodbye: Dreams to achieve despite being lazy

‘I have achieved everything I wanted this year and hope to achieve more next year, especially in the more elite competitions for film.’

Goodbye for now. You will not hear or see my name for a while unless it is on a movie screen. The road ahead will not be easy as I am chasing a dream many have sought for and never make. Becoming a famous film director is my dream.

I will destroy my competition.

This has been my dream since I was a child. At only 9 years old, I began begging my parents to buy me a Canon PowerShot like theirs so I could shoot movies. I finally got a camera on my birthday when I turned 10, however, it was a “Digital Video Camera for Dummies.” I was a stubborn kid and the camera I received did not meet my expectation.

So it has been collecting dust under my mattress ever since. Never again did I decide to pick up a camera until junior year. Hobby after hobby I was not good at anything. Bored with school, I started watching Casey Neistat videos. I remembered how I wanted to be a famous movie director, which you can’t do without having a camera or without knowing how to use one.

Neistat used a Canon 70D for his videos and all of them looked amazing. I worked long hours and lied to managers to get overtime during winter break. In the spring I signed up for photojournalism because I hoped to improve my photography.

I did not improve my skills because I was lazy. I never wanted to take photos. I thought it was going to be something I would give up like any other previous hobby. I ultimately decided to take newspaper because I remembered hearing about all of the competitions my teacher told me about. I wanted to win every competition so I could use that to get into a good college.

I have achieved everything I wanted this year and hope to achieve more next year, especially in the more elite competitions for film. I know I will still be earning awards because I learn fast when it comes to something I love doing. I hope to break the record for the youngest director to win an Oscar, which currently belongs to Damien Chazelle for La La Land.
