Basketball season has started and both the Farmer boy and girl teams push into district.

The boys basketball team is 3-2 with no district games being played yet. They most recently lost to Rowlett with a score of 56-47 on Dec. 3.

“The team is looking good this season,” head boys basketball coach Gary Collier said. “We have the chance to go undefeated in district this year. I think we are starting to bond. We are starting to gel. Guys are starting to build a bit of chemistry. When that happens, the team starts to play a lot better.”

The team has a strong offense with tough players allowing them to be able to progress into a strong district season.

“This year’s team is better at putting the ball in the hole,” Collier said. “Last year they were better in defense, but Aubreion Bobb has brought in some toughness from football to the team. He is trustworthy on defensive end.”

The boys have their first district game against Hebron High School on Dec. 8 in the Lewisville arena. Hebron is currently 2-4 with their first district game tonight against Marcus High School [7-1].

“It’ll be a good test for us,” Collier said. “They’re a good team.”

The girls started off their season with a four game losing streak with one non-district win to follow. They lost their first district game against Marcus High School, which puts them in sixth place.

“I think we are trying to find our identity at the moment,” head girls basketball coach Sally Allsbrook said. “We have good offense and defensive moments, but we are still trying to figure out how to put it together.”

The girls are looking to improve for district and have a better season than their 3-15 season last year.

“This year’s team looks promising,” Allsbrook said. “The girls have played really hard, and they almost put a full game together. Anybody is capable of being a star player. Seniors are stepping up to the post. And I have a freshman that will do some damage if she learns to play defense.”

Senior team captain Naomi Hawkins returns this season after going through intensive rehab for months. She plans to work with first year Coach Allsbrook to better the team.

“Coach Allsbrook is fun,” Hawkins said. “The game is a lot more serious, but we are learning more about the game of basketball all while making us better athletes. I’ve also gotten stronger since last year thanks to my rehab. This year we are definitely more fundamentally sound. We have better chemistry and we don’t have as many weaknesses.”
