Senior quarterback Jarvis Brooks (17) runs the ball while Marcus High School’s senior defensive end Brett Brown (90) misses the tackle.

Last week the Fighting Farmers [3-4] lost to the Byron Nelson Bobcats [2-5] with a score of 38-21 away from home. As the season draws to a close, the Farmers look to finish strong in tonight’s homecoming game at 7:30 against the Raiders from L.D. Bell [2-5] to maintain their chances of making playoffs.

Defensive errors in the game against Byron Nelson is what punished the Farmers last week. The team has been focused on correcting and closing the mistakes to prevent them in tonight’s game.

“We’re looking to improve on some of our short game coverage with our defense,” head coach Gregg Miller said. “Secondary coverage we’ve adjusted and tried to get some help for those guys in the back end for our defense.”

The defense players also recognize the mistakes and are working to improve them.

“We’ve came together as a unit and there was a lot of personal issues and personal problems, but we’ve got those resolved,” senior defensive back Matthew Kibbey said. “We play good on run defense, but our DB’s are working hard this week, so once we shut down the passing game, we can shut down the running game.”

L.D. Bell currently stands in eighth place (last) in the district standings, and the Farmers stand in seventh.

“They are going to come out strong,” senior wide receiver Tyrell Shavers said. “Even though they haven’t won any district games, they are a good ball team. I expect a challenging game.”

The seniors hope to win tonight as it’s their last homecoming as students.

“It’s my last homecoming game so I just treat it like it’s my last time ever…my last game,” senior running back Kwame Mickels said.
