After a successful run last year, the girls’ wrestling team hopes to repeat its achievements with another appearance at state. Throughout the offseason and the preseason the girls worked to get their bodies into the ideal weight classes and mentally prepared themselves for the season to come.

“[I am] working hard and working on my mentality because that was one of the biggest struggles last season [and I’m also] working well with my teammates,” senior Jasmine Jones said.

In the most recent tournament “Cowgirl Classic,” the girls finished in sixth place. Seniors Jasmine Jones and Bree Voss both received third place; Jones competed in the 165 pound division while Voss competed in the 185 pound division.

Head coach Joe Daniel is focused on winning tournaments to advance in the standings. He also wishes for the girls to stay healthy and win most of their matches.

“Our goals are the same as they have always been, having a winning dual season and placing top three in every tournament is what we aim for,” Daniel said.

The girls have set their own goals that they hope to keep and accomplish this season. Though team results matter, a heavy emphasis is still put on individual outcomes.

“My goal is to finish out strong and finish better than what I started, ”Jones said. “Also making state like I did last year, but to medal this time.”

The girls compete in the Outback Classic tomorrow morning at Weatherford High School beginning at 10.
