Junior Conner Mixson releases his bowing ball hoping to get a strike.

The boys’ bowling team will be heading to Amarillo for the regional tournament to compete against 22 other districts on Sunday, March 5. The team had a perfect 12-0 season, and four bowlers placed in the top six for individual results within the district.

Head coach Ronald Baxter affirms the boys can go far and he has a lot of trust in them. The boys have not only been training during the season but have been dedicated outside of school.

“I practiced really hard over summer,” junior Blake Boggs said. “I would head out to the bowling alley and try my hardest, even when nobody was watching.”

Regionals will be a routine competition for the team. A lot of pressure is on to keep the successful run going, but the team believes it will be successful.

“I’m not really too worried about [regionals],” junior Conner Mixson said. “Personally I’m pretty arrogant about bowling.”

The boys have different ways of preparing for games. Usually they go into competitions like they would a practice: relaxed but focused.

“I try not to think about it too much, so I don’t get in my head and psych myself out,” Mixson said.

The coach praises all seven bowlers who will be competing in the team tournament as well as those who will be competing individually. They hope their momentum will be carried into the next stages of the tournament.

“[I am] confident we’re going to win,” Baxter said. “We’re gonna win state.”
