The two piece, one side plate from recently opened Pollo Campero is well worth the price of $5.99.

Recently opened Pollo Campero brings authentic Latin chicken to Lewisville for the first time and looks to establish itself as a large fast food chain restaurant just like its other locations.

The restaurant welcomes you with vibrant colors inside and out. From the moment you step inside you are greeted in both English and Spanish. The friendly service helps the process of ordering go smooth and quick. The cashiers are polite and are prompt to take orders once customers are ready.

Choosing between the crunchy or grilled chicken is a tough decision to make. Trying one of each is the best option because the grilled chicken has seasonings to make it tangy and tasty. The crunchy chicken is not so bad, but grilled chicken tops it off.

The menu offers chicken pieces with sides included. Plates with two, three and four pieces are offered, and they serve family style as well. The more chicken that is ordered, the more sides you receive. The side options include campero rice, campero beans, latin coleslaw, black beans, french fries, yuca fries and fried plantains.

The price range is relatively low; the two piece chicken plate and a side meal costs $5.99. A special grand opening offer comes family style with 10 pieces of chicken and four sides and costs $20.99.

Alternatives to the traditional chicken plates are chicken bowls and empanadas. The bowl comes with campero rice, black beans, mild roasted rajas (chiles), cilantro and a creamy cilantro lime dressing. Empanadas are stuffed with chicken and have two flavor choices: latin buffalo and peruvian verde.

For those left unsatisfied and need something sweet at the end of the meal, Pollo Campero offers flan and slices of four leches cake. Flan is a smooth and thick custard covered in caramel, and four leches is a cake made with four different kinds of milk.

Drink options range from traditional hispanic beverages to old fashioned soft drinks. The drinks specific to Central America include horchata, a sweet cinnamon vanilla drink, Jamaica, a chilled tart red hibiscus drink, and agua de guava, a guava fruit drink.

Dirty dishes consistently left on tables for prolonged periods of time made it difficult to find a table and ruined the overall environment while eating. Pollo Campero earns a B+ because the chicken and sides are good and tasty.
