City to host Halloween fun

Various activities to take place tomorrow night at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park

The recreational department of the City of Lewisville will be hosting the Spooktacular Trails and Glow Run on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5-9 p.m. at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park.

Various school organizations will be helping out including Student Ambassadors in Lewisville (SAIL), AVID and StuCo.

“Spooktacular has been happening I think for seven years,” SAIL teacher Polly Vaughan said. “We didn’t participate the first two years, but we’ve been doing it since then. We had probably about 100 students participate in [the past] four years.”

Spooktacular gives parents the opportunity to take children of all ages out for a fun Halloween experience as events go beyond the glow run. A haunted house, spooky hay ride and costume contest are just a few of the other activities that will take place.

“It is providing a safe and fun environment for kids to go to trick or treat and play games and do Halloween stuff,” Vaughan said.

Spooktacular has a bone-chilling environment where attendees are able to celebrate the Halloween season. Before the celebrations begin, volunteers have to get into character, which is a long process to do.

“It was exhausting [last year],” sophomore AVID student and volunteer Catherine Sifuentes said. “We had to spend three or four hours in a tiny room and before that we had four hours of make-up and it was like two hours just standing and waiting.”

The students and teachers from SAIL will paint their faces to look like zombies to playfully scare the attendees. One of the larger events of the day is the glow run where the zombies jump out and scare or chase the runners.

“I am excited to be able to chase people in the hay ride,” sophomore SAIL volunteer Ashley Lindley said. “I also get to participate in the glow run by running after the runners, and I think that’s going to be pretty fun especially because it’s dark.”
