Breaking the tie

Baseball to take on Coppell in battle for second place in district

After a 5-2 win against Hebron last Friday, the baseball team puts a three-game winning streak on the line against Coppell tonight at 7 at home.

The Farmers are tied with Coppell for second in the district and will follow tonight’s game with a road trip to Coppell Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Tonight’s game was originally scheduled for Thursday but was cancelled due to weather.

Junior Cody Doucet said that Hebron was a good team and that everything went very well in the game.

“We were pretty slow offensively to start the game but once we started going we hit their pitcher pretty good,” Doucet said. “We made some things happen, had good defense. We played well and really gave it to them.”

Senior Jason Foley said that the team plays well together and is not selfish. He broke down the weaknesses he feels that the team has.

“We’re probably just inexperienced,” Foley said. “It’s probably because we only have three starters, but the kids that came up from JV are actually performing really well so far.”

Besides seeing each other on the field, the team also meets up to hang out and also has team dinners before every home game. Doucet said that the players always have each other’s backs.

“If someone is saying mean things about them like on Twitter or something, we’ll back them up and build each other back up,” Doucet said.

Doucet said that they will work on different intricacies to improve their game.

“We will focus on our defense, make sure thats tuned up ready to go, make sure our pitchers are ready, make sure we have that down, know that we have that,” Doucet said. “We will work offensively see what we can do with holes in their defense.”

Foley said that despite Coppell having some strong players, the Farmers have to come out just as strong

“I heard they are a really great team so far. I know they gave a good pitcher thats been doing really well for them,” Foley said. “But we have to come out prepared too.”
