Senior Trinity Benson gains yardage during the Hebron game on Sept. 26. Benson scored four touchdowns in the win over the Hawks.

After a historic first-ever win over Hebron last week, the Farmers [2-2, 1-1 in 6-6A] will cross paths with reigning back-to-back state champs Allen [5-0, 3-0] Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kimbrough Stadium in Plano. Head coach Gregg Miller said his team is up for a challenge and has no fear about facing Allen.

“Our kids aren’t scared of anybody,” Miller said. “They figure Allen isn’t going to be much bigger than Marcus.”

Allen came from behind last week against the Marauders to accomplish a 35-24 win.

Allen was short-handed that week with the absence of senior lineman Bobby Evans. Evans, a University of Oklahoma commitment and star quarterback Kyler Murray’s main protection, will not play in Saturday’s game due to a torn ACL. Being a top prospect in the nation [No. 166 by ESPN], the ripple effects of his absence will be huge.

[Allen] puts their pants on just like we do; they’re just high school kids just like us.

— Head coach Gregg Miller

The Eagles last week filled his absence at left tackle with junior and Texas A&M commitment Greg Little.

Senior Kyler Murray, also committed to Texas A&M, is the Eagle’s highest scorer and play-maker. A dual threat quarterback, Murray has rushed for 508 yards with 13 touchdowns, along with 1,556 yards passing with 15 touchdowns through the air. Murray’s favored receiver is senior Notre Dame commitment, Jalen Guyton. Guyton has recorded 716 yards and eight touchdowns in only 33 catches.

Coach Miller said he has stressed that the main job of his defense is to play this game like any other and be where they are supposed to be. The Farmers defense has been ready to play in these last few weeks, ranking eighth [according to the Dallas Morning News] in defense in the metroplex.

“[Allen] puts their pants on just like we do; they’re just high school kids just like us,” Miller said.

Miller also mentioned that Allen has the benefit of having much more students than Lewisville, and the role that plays in how their team looks on paper. Miller, despite the odds, said he believes in his team to pull out a win.

“[The team] has been talking about the upset. Upsets have happened since the beginning of time,” Miller said. “Our plan is to go out and play as good as we can play and let the chips fall where they may. People are upset all the time.”

Senior receiver Cameron Creal described the preparation and precautions the Farmers have been taking this week.

“All hands on deck in practice,” Creal said. “We’re focused.”

Senior linebacker George Haskins noted that more work is to be done if the Farmers want to make playoffs.

“We’ve got to play the game fast, faster than what [Allen] is gonna play and if we can do that, then we’ll be good,” Haskins said.

Senior tight end Spencer Grider said there is no intimidation whatsoever.

“We know [Allen’s] weaknesses,” Grider said. “They are a good football team, but we are as well so I think we should be able to come out with a W.”

Last week the Farmers beat Hebron [0-5, 0-3] 38-20 at Goldsmith Stadium. Senior Trinity Benson paced the team with four total touchdowns, including three passes from senior Adrian Villarreal and a punt return score. Villarreal added 97 rushing yards in 15 attempts from the quarterback position.
